HAPPY NEW YEAR

1/1/2021

Here it is - the new year! 2021.

Made it through 2020. And although it’s not like suddenly everything is different and all the challenges are gone. There is still a lot of rough road ahead but I feel hopeful.

The night is darkest right before the dawn. Light, change and goodness is coming soon and is here now if we can only see it.

Keep breathing, keep creating and keep smiling.

Puzzle Solved

One of my goals before the New Year was to solve the Rubix Cube - and after watching a video explaining how to solve it and a few notes I managed to get all the sides solved.

Now to work on getting a smoother solve and memorizing the algorithms (what a great word!).

Cosmic Pickle

12/29/2020

My youngest son and I were driving to pick up carry out from one of our favorite BBQ places in town - Rudy’s BBQ (fun fact: I used to work at Rudy’s for a spell after college) But, as we were driving down the highway I saw this big green pickle (or cucumber?) looking thing flying down the highway. And just as it passed, I caught the name painted on the side of it ... the “Cosmic Pickle.” I thought it was pretty cool because it’s not everyday you get to see a cosmic pickle on the road. And the BBQ was amazing too.

Mixie Update

So it’s been a few days since we have gotten Mixie.

Good news is she is sleeping well through the nights - we are letting her stay in a kennel thing because it’s getting really cold at night.

Bummer thing is that she is definitely in the “puppy needs to chew on everything” phase. I have learned it’s normal for her to just want to interact with the world by chewing on it - my ankles and hands included. So we’re working on that one.

Overall, she’s such a sweet puppy and we are having a lot of fun with her.

What I Thought Was Cool

Here are a few things I thought were kind of cool this week.

1. Currently reading "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert on "creative living beyond fear" - really good stuff in this book.

Link to "Big Magic"

2. Enjoyed watching the brilliant Christoph Niemann's "How to Overcome the 3 Fears Every Creative Faces" on 99U.

3. Had a great Thanksgiving holiday with my family and in-laws.  Spent the week researching and exploring the "art of thankfulness" - check out episode 4 of "Lightning in a Bottle" to listen to it.

Ep. 4 "The ARt of thankfulness

4. We have been on the look for a puppy for our family - our first dog!
We finally found "Mixie" today at our local dog shelter.  She is super cute and such a good puppy!  Bonus: has a cone for a couple more days just like Santa's Little Helper in the Simpsons.

5. Finally made it to episode 200 of The Creative Pep Talk podcast with Andy J. Pizza. Still have 97 to go before I catch up with where he's currently at.  Such good stuff in the meanderings of the this creative mind.  Good stuff.

Found this cool “storm drain” cover in Houston over the weekend. We were hanging out near the MD Anderson, keeping my Gaga (my mother-in-law) company.

TWENTY FIVE

Just finished my 25th drawing for my 100 Day Project. Each one is 6x6in.

It’s been fun so far - crazy how the time has been flying. I have enjoyed working with different images that I have wanted to try around for awhile.

One by itself is not a big deal, just a small drawing but when you put them all together they start to build up momentum and strength.

Life in Waco

Crazy to think I have been living in Waco for over 20 years now.  Moving from Iowa after high school, it was quite a culture shock and my first impressions of Waco were not favorable.

But Waco is weird.  It grows on you.  It's not perfect but there are great people here, great places here and not much traffic.
